On Saturday Febuary the second,
members of the Cass County Honor Guard (Sergeant Claibourn, Corporal Heffernan, Corporal Monroe, and Deputy Adair)
along with Officers, Fireman, Military, and
civilians from around the Metro area participated in the Third Annual Polar Bear Plunge at
Longview Lake.
Other divers this year included the Chief of the Belton Police Department James Person, and the
Lee's Summit Police Chief Kenneth T. Conlee. Also attending for the second year in a row was Officer
Mike Mclaughlin from the Peculiar Police Department.
Proceeds support year-round sports training and athletic competition for the
14,502 children and adults with mental disabilities who participate in Special
Olympics Missouri.
The Polar Bear Plunge is affiliated with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for
Special Olympics. Torch Run events raise awareness and funds for Special
Olympics Missouri, and in 2006, Missouri's Torch Run ranks No. 8 in the world.
