Cass County Standoff Ends Without Incident

Cass Co. – A standoff between a Pleasant Hill man and Cass County Deputies ended after nearly nine hours Tuesday evening without incident. Around 9:00 a.m. Cass County Deputies went to the home in the 700 block of Oak St. in Pleasant Hill to serve an eviction. When deputies entered the home they were met by the 54 year old resident who was inside. The man who was armed with a shotgun, refused to leave or hand over the weapon. Deputies from Cass County and Officers from the Pleasant Hill Police Department talked with the man for almost an hour before the Cass County Tactical Response Team arrived. Negotiators with the Tac Team spoke with the subject for several hours, but the subject refused to leave. Belton Police Departments C.E.R.T. Team responded to the scene to help relieve the Tac Team already in place for more than 8 hours.

After almost ten hours of talks the man finally surrendered to authorities after negotiators brought the man brother to the scene. The man, whose name is not being released, has not been charged at this time. C.I.T. (Crisis Intervention Team) Officers from Pleasant Hill and Cass County interviewed the subject who was later transported to a mental health facility.

In all more than 50 officers from Cass County, Pleasant Hill, Missouri Highway Patrol, and Belton, along with Pleasant Hill Fire and EMS, and Public Works assisted with the operation.
