PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Public Information Officer:
August 23, 2006
Cpl. Kevin Tieman
Cass County Sheriff's Office
816-380-8301 Office
816-738-4394 Cell

Currently we have 30 people working on the scene collecting evidence. As of 2:30 p.m. investigators located 65 pieces of bone. We expect to catalog another 20-30 pieces by the end of the day. One tooth believed to be human was found. The tooth did have some dental work; however we are not ready to disclose any other details about the tooth. Currently our collective total of evidence, primarily bone fragments stands at 185.

Today we had deputies from our office along with deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Harrisonville, Raymore, Belton Police Department, Kansas City Police Departments Homicide Unit, Missouri State Highway Patrol.

On Thursday we will 24 Cadets from Missouri Western Police Academy in St. Joseph.

We set a second grid today that is approximately 975 squares. This brings to total amount of grid squares to 2024.

It’s expected that we will finish the first grid and we foresee starting a search of the front yard on Thursday.

Detectives are following up on leads, however I don’t have an exact number of calls in. Remember that we are basically trying to track down people, places, and things that Mr. Shaver has done for the last 33 years. We are trying to figure out the life history of a 33 year old man.

I also have some pool photos from the scene. These were taken by our office and in an attempt to help you better visualize what we are working on.
