Burned Body Found in Vehicle
Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office were removing a partially submerged vehicle from the Bittern Bottoms Conservation Area around 1:00 pm today when they discovered a body inside. Investigators have not identified the victim and have not determined the nature of the death. Because of the nature of the incident the Kansas City Crime Lab has been called in to assist.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office positively identified the body found in a burned and partially submerged car on Monday. The vehicle was discovered in the Bittern Bottoms Conservation Area south of Harrisonville around 1:00 pm on Monday. The victim has been identified as 27 year old George Wood of Belton, Mo.
At this time there appears to be no sign of foul play. According to investigators it may take several weeks for a final report on lab and forensics test. Cass County Detectives are awaiting complete test results from the Medical Examiner's Office before making a final determination on the cause of death.
