The Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy meets and exceeds the State of Missouri’s minimum basic training requirement for peace officer certification.

Our classes are scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.; every Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and some Sundays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPLICANT

  • Age Requirement: Applicant must be 21 years of age prior to graduation.
  • Residency: Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Education: Documentary proof of high school education or presentation of a “State High School Equivalency” certificate.
  • Vision: Vision in each eye must be correctable to 20 / 20.
  • Arrest Record: Must be free from conviction.
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Operator’s License.
  • Military: Must have an “Honorable” discharge, or “Under Honorable
    • Conditions” discharge if having served in the military.

Effective September 1, 2003, the office of the Director of Public Safety will deny the basic training center application of any individual who has been convicted of “driving while intoxicated”, “driving with excessive blood alcohol content” or “possession of a controlled substance” within three (3) years of the date of application. This shall include those offenses where the imposition or execution of sentence was suspended. This denial shall be in accordance with section 590.100.1, RSMo, and 11 CSR 75-13.090, and the applicant shall have the ability to appeal this denial within the Administrative Hearing Commission.

APPLICATION INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES

Submit your completed application to the Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy. The following documents need to be included in your completed application packet:

  • A copy of your birth certificate
  • A copy of your high school, college diploma, GED certificate or transcripts
  • A copy of your DD 214 if you were in the military
  • Basic Training Legal Questionnaire
  • Two (2) Authorization for Release of Information Forms
  • Release from Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement
  • Fingerprinting process is completed through L-1 Identity Solutions.

Once you have received an interview letter from the academy, you will need to complete the following:

  1. Call L-1 Identity Solutions toll free number (1-866-522-7067) or go to the secure website (www.l1id.com) to schedule an appointment
  2. Give the following information to L-1 Identity Solutions;
    1. ORI #MO920330Z
    2. Being fingerprinted for POST
    3. Attending Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy
  3. You will choose from available appointment times and locations
  4. At the schedule appointment, IIS will verify your identification using a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.
  5. You must be ready to pay the fee of $56.95 at the time of fingerprinting
  6. You will receive a receipt, which will include the transaction identification number. This number can be used to track the transaction through the entire process.
  7. Check or money order for $150.00 (non-refundable) made payable to “Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy” for the processing and application fee (unless the class being applied for is cancelled then a full refund will be made).
  8. HANDWRITTEN autobiography (minimum of two pages). No typewritten autobiography will be accepted.

Law Enforcement / Professional Reference

If notified, you will need to appear for an admissions interview.

If approved, you will be notified of your acceptance to the Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy.
